Enough of the rhetorical questions already...

As you can tell titles aren't my strong point - I have a 26000 word novel that I am still writing that still has no title.

I wanted to start talking about the main struggles that I face as a writer and hopefully some of you may relate.

Struggle Number 1: Having half an idea

I dream about my stories sometimes, my main novels that are in the works currently were all stories that came to me in a dream, I woke up and I just had this urge to write about them. The problem is, I don't just have one of these, I have about five on the go at one time, and what's more annoying is they are all half ideas. I know how to start the story, or I know how to finish, but what goes in the middle? Currently, that is what I am struggling with most.

Now, I know that most of you are going to say, just have willpower, sit down and write it out before you start another one. Unfortunately, I have very little will power when it comes to writing I just write what I feel, but also I can't not write them down because in my head all I can think is - what if it turned out to be an amazing story and I passed it up because I didn't write it in a notebook when I thought of it. Obviously not every story that you, or I, come up with are going to be best sellers, but there may that one that changes your life, and what if it's that particular story.

So you see, I have to write them down, even if all I end up getting is just the characters background but nothing else. I mean my idea tonight consisted of "Wizard? Maybe..." And that was his background so maybe I don't even have half an idea sometimes...

I know that many writers struggle with this same thing and I am not here to tell you how to fix it, as you can clearly read I am nowhere near figuring that out myself. What I am here to do is say that maybe it isn't such a bad thing. All these ideas I have written down, well I just go back to them when I have writers block, or when I am in the mood to write a particular story.

Yes it is a struggle, but my advice, just write them down anyway because whether you have a plan or just a pla that one "wizard? Maybe..." might be the main character of your first best seller.

Keep struggling - it will be worth it in the end.

  1. Essentially your writing has a touch of self experience. The deeper you feel about yourself, the easier it will be for you to write. Keep writing. All the best.
