Struggle Number 2

I think that there has been a time in every writers life where they have come across this struggle - Writers block...

Struggle 2: Writer's Block

In my experience when I have faced writers block there are only a few outcomes:
  • I write and I hate it and end up re-writing
  • I sit and stare at a piece of paper until I get frustrated and throw my pen across the room
  • I write nonsense that makes no sense and I never re-visit it again
I don't think I have any other outcomes of writers block.

For a long time, I only wrote out of a need so actually, writers block didn't really exist. If I didn't feel like writing then it normally meant that I was in a happy mood and I didn't need to.

Then when I was promoting my editing work I started publishing some poems through the company and I felt as if I had to write - that was truly when my writers block hit. I couldn't come up with anything remotely good (at least I didn't think so anyway) because all I could think was - I had to write. This is definitely the reason that I have never followed a career in writing, I can just imagine my publisher shouting at me because I missed a deadline for the fifth time.

I absolutely praise authors such as Stephen King and James Patterson who always seem to have a story brewing, and good ones at that. Sure both authors have had some duds but you can't expect everything to be a hit (as I said in my previous post though - it could be the one).

Writing is my passion, not my job. Though I do love my job also, it isn't my passion.

Every writer looks for help with dealing with writers block, and I think that everyone is different. Some can push through it, some can write on auto pilot so there's no such thing as writer's block, and some just have to wait for the block to fade. I am personally the third because I don't have to this as a job, so if I have writer's block, well no big deal I will go and write something later or the next day. Those who do, well if it's your job, by now you have probably already figured out the way to get over writer's block and any pearls of wisdom you have to share with the world is always greatly appreciated.

Keep struggling - it will be worth it in the end.
